| THREE ways to get statues... 1) Get Tactical Marines and paint them like STONE. Stonewall Grey, drybrush concrete grey and codex gray. Works well for 'small' statues'. You could also do bronze statues... a SM model painted bronze with an then some patena (verdigris)... see Laney's AMAZING Tutorial! I did some following his teaching... so easy that you will get angry that you never figured out how to do it by yourself before! 2) You could get some Textured Paint and apply to your SM models. When I was building Mikelopolis (I just remember how pathetic my life is... since I have not finished!) I used this technique. Check my OLD post ( LINK). By the end you will see the results on the giant statue... | Quote: | I wanted to give the statue a tactile AND visual aspect, to imitate granite stone. To me, the sculpture should be rough stone (like granite), rather than smooth stone (like marble.) I went to the hardware store (I guess you could find them on arts & crafts store) and got a 'stone texture' spray paint. It is VERY weird. Not this one, but the idea is the same. This type of paint (LINK) kindda 'spits' textured components. The one I got was VERY coarse... I should have gotten one with smaller grain.
First, I primed the model black. Then I covered the bolter with tight plastic. I gave several LIGHT coats of the textured paint... light so the details were not obscured (the size of the grain took care of that! ) After 24 hours, I inked the statue with brown wash. After it dried (24 hours) some drybrushing layers it with greys, bone white & black was in order. The final touch was a VERY light coat of textured paint. Then I proceeded to paint the bolter with golds and metallics.
In retrospect, if I used a smaller grain I could had skipped the dry-brushing. I have a 2nd Inquisitor model (Artemis) which I plan to make a statue using smaller grain.

3) You can get a hold of GW's Honored Imperium terrain set!

I think this is a GREAT statue... and the Aquila's are not too shabby! Here is GW's Tutorial on painting them (LINK) which is VERY nice. Too bad GW insists in hiding their articles... hehehe...
Good luck, mi hermano! Keep us posted! _________________ . The Mordheimer - Death Squads' Chief Editor & Ninja Designer. Bursting with ARACHAS' Dev-Powahâ„¢!
