Ok, so I'll probably be starting a Chaos Cultist warband in the future and I had a few Space Marine parts lying around and I wanted to try my hand at the 'budget version' of truescaling (For which Arachas provided me with this link), So I decided to make a Tzeentch sorcerer (since I was reading the Horus Heresy book Thousand Sons...). It still needs a bit of cleaning up, but this is what I came up with:

I also lined him up with one of my guardsmen and an, apparently tiny, Grey Knight space marine to demonstrate the added height gained by the truescaling.

enjoy

Nice one. But staff look little unplayable, maybe consider trimming it a little to allow model to do some in building action?

I've learned hard way that high scenic bases, long banners and staffs, to big models and to much in hight poses may cause a lot of problems in leveled ruins of skirmish games.

But... When will we see it painted?

The height of the model is less than 3 inches, so it just fits (official GW building and my own have a distance of 3" between floors). But I'll see if I can do some 'field trials' to figure out if the staff needs some shortening.

As for painting...who knows when I have the time to do that...Still, it is a fun little project, so it might get pushed to the frotn of the painting que...:p

Dude... NICE!

Prius was complaining about how his marine wasn't turning out big enough... Wth! It looks awesome, man!

You should consider adding some more 'Chaosy' parts. Maybe Khemri bits that fit with the sorceror theme? He looks a tad vanilla, still.

Yeah, he could do with some more...stuff. However I think the Thousand sons where some of the less 'chaos-y' chapters that went to the dark side. Their official models are also a lot less freaky than say nugle marines.

I mean:

Khorn bezerkers:

Slaanesh noise marines:

Nurgle Plague marines:

And then the clean (by comparisson) Thousand sons:

I was thinking about doing a cape or something, but that is hard to do well...

Ok, these are a bit more, but still not a bad as, say, Nurgle.

Couse TSons are only Traitor Legion free of mutation and sparkling with sorcery and arcane powers. Hell there is Ahriman [former TSons chief librarian] fraction who officially cut their alignment too Chaos and fight for themselves.

Flull wise during Great Crusade TSons where Legion suffering from mass mutation and close to be disbanded. Only their primarch Magnus trades with Tzeench stoped that till times of Heresy. Finally Ahriman sorcery stopped mutation and made TSons what they are now. So they can't be crude and ugly like Lesser Gods followers Wink

They are pure as only Chaos can be Very Happy

I just love TSons and World Eaters fluff *-*

Hmmm... why don't you magnetize the hand that has the banner? Would make it more 'playable'.

Reading through this I was about to suggest exactly the same as Mord did - magnetise the hand and have a bolt pistol hand (for example, or a spell casting one) to replace it.

The tutorial is really useful. I've been thinking of doing a Blood Angel of Nurgle (drawing on the original material publish in the fan-made Sourcebook Dornian Heresy) which might get used in a Chaos Cultist Warband and this would be a great opportunity to do a one-off truescale marine. Do please thank the original poster on warseer, if you get a chance.

Is he meant to be a Thousand Son or does he [edited in] belong to a different Chapter / Legion and has personally chosen to follow Tzeentch?

Funny I did some truescale pox angels (at least that was what I called them until someone directed me to the dornian heresy) - superb work and very inspiring for people who what some alternative options. Check out my truescale thread in painting and modelling to see what I came up with.

Cheers Laney Very Happy

The next truescale I do will be a nurgle corrupted techmarine (no particular chapter)

EDIT: Nice use of khemri parts on the sorcerer - I think he needs a cloak to make him more of a sorcerer though. The paint job should bring it all together really well.

Already seen those Laney, but thanks for the post. You used the 'art-scale' method (never heard that name before but the tutorial used it) and I'm thinking to go with this method as it means I don't need to buy anything extra. I will be drawing on your work for inspiration.

I think the Dornian Heresy is a great "gedankenexperiment" to test the boundaries of the fluff.

Looking forward to your work on that techmarine.

I also agree on the cape, it'd help. Maybe some Chaos-y decorations, like a Celtic knot, extra eye (like on one of the images) or other medieval magical symbol to strengthen both the magical and Chaotic link.

@ Colonel Prius: OHHH!!! I like jammydodger's suggestion of a 'casting' hand replacement... VERY unique!

@ Laney: Corrupted Techmarine? Don't you have any respect for the Holy Machine Spirit?!?! Shocked
