Remember... you have until December 21st to enjoy it. You've heard about it, you've seen books about it, maybe you even watched a certain Nicolas Cage movie about it. According to the Mayan calendar, the world's 13th "b'ak'tun," or 144,000-day cycle, will come to an end on December 21, 2012. Some think the Mayans associated the end of the 13th b'ak'tun with the end of the world, and that's why there have been so many rumors of an approaching doomsday.
But the reality is, even if the Mayans were right, calculations suggesting the end of the world would arrive in 2012 are fragile at best. John Hoopes, a scholar of Maya history, told Livescience, "A lot of the end-of-the-world mythologies are the result of Christian eschatology introduced by Franciscan missionaries." He went on to explain that some believe the Mayans would have simply treated the date as a "new beginning," much like the new year or the new millennium. But if it happened in a Nicolas Cage movie it's probably worth investigating, right?
Anyhow, I think that if we survived The Rapture not once but TWICE on 2011, we could (emphasis on COULD) survive Mayan Doomsday.
