| EDIT: A lot of my links on the first page stopped working. I will take some new pictures and upload them when I get a chance.
Hello deathsquads community! I've just started to play some deathsquads games but I have already started making a few terrain pieces. I really like dirty, dingy 40k terrain and the whole dystopian future feel. I have never been very interested in the 40k universe until looking at deathsquads and some of the neat 40k scenery that is around. Here are a few pieces I have built. Anyone who frequents Tom's boring mordheim forum will have seen most of these pieces there as well.
Here is my storage tank. I am hoping it will fit in alright in Mordheim and in a 40k setting.
The rust is sponged on bestial brown, vomit brown, and a little blazing orange. It doesn't look quite so orange in real life.
The base is pink foam cut into strips with the shape of individual bricks cut into it. Maybe a bit too time consuming for a base.
The supports are balsa wood. The tanks are pop cans with plasticard rivets, pipes, and patches. The ends are made from cardboard.
And here is a little bridge that I made back in September. I need some rivers for it to go over now!
I still want to add some moss to this one. Either stippled green paint and some wash stains or I may try glueing on some green flock. Which would look best? It definitely looks too clean right now!
I hope to be able to use this to give buildings some elevation, as a hill in warhammer, and possibly as a quick base for a temple. I thought about making some simple pieces to go on top of it. Little ruined walls and things as a quick way to flesh out some scenery. I am fairly pleased with this piece. I think I will make a few more similar hills as they seem like a great way to diversify the terrain a bit.
It is made with pink foam and some balsa wood. The back stairs are wide enough for a % wide 25mm base regiment. Front is wide enough for a horde!
I still need to add some stains to the rock work and to finish up the wood. A pretty quick project with some good playability.
Next up I have a large storage tank facility and a smaller section of storage tanks I built from junk. I'll put up some WIPs when I get the rivets done on them. Another quick project, although with more of a 40k slant. I just really want to do some more rust! I also have a pringles tube that will be turned into a large smoke stack or something.

| Soda cans: he mentioned that.
Dude... nice. I need balsawood I see. I love those tanks, as it allows for climbing and higher levels with all the walkways you made. I'll have to keep that in mind! _________________ Arachas - The one who changes Avatars more than Lady Gaga changes costumes - Bursting with Dev-Powah™!!Tau Squad Co-Lead Designer |

| This is amazing!!! Funny, I started thinking... "How the hell he did that rust?!?! I would have taken him YEARS to brush all those tiny things..." As you may have guess, I don't read the caps until AFTER seeing all the pics. Then, HOW EXCITING!!! I would had never though about sponging it! You are right!
Thanks for sharing such masterful secrets!

| Yes, the sponge really does make it faster. The rust took me only about 20 minutes in total for the three colours. I need to look at some more pictures of natural rust and how it forms. I have seen a method using a rust "wash" that looks cool too. I like how the sponge rust looks flaky.
Thanks for all of the comments! |

| Hi Narcissus,
Just wanted to drop a welcome and a thank you. Your terrain work displayed here is really good and it has inspired me to build some of my own. Would you mind if I stole the design for the storage tanks and the rust method too? I don't know if I'll have the opportunity to actually do any work on it in the short-term, but once I get something done I'll be happy to post it.
Excellent idea for creating "urban hills". Many urban battlefields only create their vertical element through walkways and buildings but this offers an interesting alternative!
Regards,
Jammer |

| Here are some more recent WIPs.
The first piece I put together while building the second. It actually only took me about an hour. The small generator (that is what it will be!) is from a print cartridge. I have another piece for the top. Sandbags are from sculpey.
This piece was a lot of fun to put together. I can't wait to get it all painted up. Unfortunately it will have to wait until I get home, as it is all boxed with my other things as I move just now. This piece is fun to play with as it provides a nice high walkway. It should be more useable now that I have added the sandbags for some cover. The building at the base is a tofu container and the small tank is a yogurt container.

| Thanks for the kind words Chuckosky. I think some more Ork inspired terrain is needed soon! Hahaha. Hopefully I can get them painted by Christmas...
Jammy Dodger-Feel free to use the same or similar designs for the storage tanks and rust. I definitely look at lots of images and take nice elements from each for making pieces. I would advise adding more cover underneath if you make a similar set of tanks and more area to walk on the 2nd floor (more lower walkway).
My home forum is having a contest for this month. Objective markers. I want to make mine deathsquad specific. So far I am thinking of: -crashed dropship (maybe orky) -missile silo
And some maybes: -objective buildings? -governor and decoys? -small buildings to occupy?
Any more ideas for good and simple objectives for the scenarios? |

| Another piece of ace terrain - I have one question (I've been building up stuff to make some of my own terrain). What is the walkway/mesh on the buildings made from - looks great! Cheers Laney |

| First... I am truly amazed as the amount of Coconut Water you drink. I used to drink it from the coconut itself, until I discover that it gives you diarrhea. The adventures of a child... Amazing terrain... VERY creative AND practical. You don't see them go hand-by-hand too often. Once you paint it... AHHHH!!!! Can't wait! Ideas for your contest... BOBBY TRAPS!!! They are practical for 40k, and functional for ! You can crank 5 of them with relative ease and be ready for both. Let us know how it goes!!! _________________ . | VERY NICE W.I.P.! You're developing a real flair for the Industrial/Sci-Fi scenics. Covering the copper is easier if you use a "real" metal primer...the smelly sort. I vote for the Ork Drop Ship piece...with Orks it's difficult to tell a "crash" from a normal landing. |
